Our kids program at CrossFit Might is run by one of our co-owners Larissa Banks. Larissa completed her CrossFit Kids course in 2016. She also holds her CrossFit Level 1, Level 2 and CF Weightlifting certificates. In addition to looking after the kids in our box Larissa coaches adult classes too. She is a primary school teacher by day making her the perfect choice for our kids coach at CrossFit Might. Larissa clearly holds a passion for teaching kids and makes sure each class is filled with enthusiasm and fun!
Our goal for kids at CrossFit Might is to instil a love for CrossFit and a healthy lifestyle in all our athletes. Children begin to learn and appreciate all the things that adults love about a CrossFit Box. They develop an increased confidence, empowerment, a sense of belonging to a community and an appreciation for other athletes of differing abilities to name a few. We encourage all our kids to have fun and try new things!
Our Mini Mights classes are held on Monday and Thursday afternoons at 3:45 and 4:15pm. They run for half an hour and are recommended for those 5 – 12 years old.
These classes introduce kids to some of the foundation movements of CrossFit in a fun environment.
Mini Mights not only learn movements like squats, presses and burpees but also a little around nutrition, team work and resilience. In this class we use little weight – eventually progressing to light medicine balls, kettlebells or weight plates. These are only used when the child has shown that they can consistently perform the movements correctly. We have several levels of athletes in this class and scale workouts accordingly to help teach them the proper movement and also to prevent injury.
Our Mighty Teens classes are held on Monday and Thursday afternoons at 5pm. This class runs for 45 – 60min and is recommended for those 13 – 18 years old.
This class teaches kids the correct foundation movements and begins to introduce different lifts starting with a broom stick and progressing slowly in weight based on how well each athlete performs the movement. As with our Mini Mights class, we have several different levels of athletes and continue to scale workouts accordingly to help teach them the proper movement and also to prevent injury.
Teen benchmarks are in place for progression into adult classes.
